Background on Kampong Koh

Kampong Koh was settled in 1903 by 363 men, women and children from Foochow, China brought by Methodist pastor Ling Ching Bee.

Alloted plots of land, these pioneers cleared the vegetation and planted padi, then later, rubber. They persevered extreme living conditions and hardship. They worked hard. They organised themselves and fended for their community.

They left behind a legacy of the Christian community known for their hardiness and strong faith.

They are honoured in the Settlement Museum housed in the former manor of the Methodist Church.

Today, Kampong Koh and the surrounding areas around Sitiawan celebrate a living heritage of a prosperous people and rapidly developing economy.
